Western Explorer (new RIB)

Capt. Ivan Reiff orients passengers. Naturalist Monika Wieland (port quarter) listens intently.

From OrcaWhaleWatch.com:

The Western Explorer (15 passengers) is the only boat of its kind in Washington State, offering "expedition style" tours with the sun on your face and wind in your hair.

Dedicated and Responsible. As an active member of the Pacific Whale Watch Association, we’re dedicated to research, education and responsible wildlife and whale watching.

Enjoyed the report of the 'Western Explorer' trip by Monika Wieland. As a former Cruise Line Safety Officer and IMO Instructor in STCW during orientation all aboard should be wearing their lifejackets. Also sitting on the side float without one on is a poor practice as is sitting on the float, yes even at the dock. This I am sure sounds a bit petty too many of you. Please believe me doing things very correctly and formally from the beginning pays long term dividends in safety. Remember those Pax. are forward of your coxswain position and underway communication of instructions will be very difficult. Safe trips and
Good WAtch

Hi Peter,

If you enlarge the picture by clicking on it, you'll see that Monika indeed has an exposure suit on. The top is tied around her waist prior to them getting underway.

BTW - Monika has signed up for our fall Captain's Licensing Course.
