BitterEnd refers to the end of a line (never a rope) that is secured to a (towing) bitt. The working end of a line is referred to as the Standing End.
BitterEnd Logo: The aquamarine octopus on a dark blue ground symbolizes the Salish Sea, BitterEnd's stomping grounds. Enteroctopus dolfleini, the giant Pacific octopus, is indigenous to local waters and is the largest octopus on the planet. One is always lurking somewhere below the surface.
The 2009 season will see a number of posts via my cell phone. The posts may be lacking in format, but not in content.

Hi Richard,
Sorry to see you're having to buck into such lousy squall today. It's really amazing how our weather can change so dramatically in a few hours like this. We were at Prevost Hbr on Stuart Friday nite, left yday and went around Waldron, the Ditch and back to Orcas landing and it was perfect warm and calm all day. This storm suddenly blew in last evening with rain at 2130 and this morning at Rosario was cold and windy - Kenmore Air had a hard time landing as it was so rough at noon. A total flip from only 15 hours earlier.

Rough Trip, Richard!
Glad you are back safe and sound...
Smooth Sailin.'
