Capt. Deb Fritz

100 Ton Master, Capt. Deb Fritz at the helm of "Vessel Assist Salvation."

Capt. Deb Fritz is our back up driver and a great operator. The last two days we worked several cases together. She's a great wingman...........except she smiles too much.

BTW, a year ago Deb was in my Zenith Maritime Course here in Friday Harbor.

Oh, btw, before you start asking the PFD questions, we were at the dock.

Peter,

In my experience, the women operators I know, can maneuver circles around men.

In many years and thousands of hours flight instructing I found women to be better airplane handlers than men. They tended to have more finesse with the controls and were lacking the macho man-over-machine attitude that many men had.

Richard, That is why you see a majority of maritime pilots are women? In Puget Sound women applicants have a 100% wash out rate and there is One female pilot in Sanfrancisco out of 60 pilots and one in the Columbia River Bar pilots not a great showing for "operators ...can maneuver circles around me"

Being skilled at something, and operating well in a male-dominated environment are totally different things.

well Raul I cant disagree with you but to say that women "maneuver circles around men" is a pretty sexist comment and in the professional arena has not been proven to be the case when women have been given the chance to maneuver large commercial vessels. I wonder how many women are entered into the international shiphandling championship sponsored by professional mariner and how if any are entered they will do? that would be an objective test of shiphandling skill not a subjective personal observation/oppinion

I don't think Raul was making an industry wide observation, he flat out said his observations was from his own experience. While I haven't met too many female boat drivers, I am also a pilot myself, and the CFI who took me through my own CFI was a woman who was a damn good pilot. Probably the best CFI I ever had, I very much enjoyed flying with her. So I can relate to his experience.
