Richard,
It seems you are lucky or the area boaters are unlucky but you always find a tow! Much better than your North-East Coast "oppos". Going through some books recently I came across my copy of "Captain Farwell's Hansen Handbook". I used this in the 1960's and 70's when piloting the Inside Passage. Curious to see if there is a recent edition I found out that it is quite valuable. I am sure you know the book. On looking online I see that Michael's Books has one for $450.00 (used condition), Fish Works one at $400.00 (good condition) and AntiQbook at $345.00 (used). Mine is in excellent condition and comes complete with a list of the BC Licensed Pilots current in 1977 and BC & SE Alaska distance matrixs from when I was with HAL in "Veendam" as 1st. Officer. It occurred to me you might know of someone in your area that collects nautical books and would be interested to purchase. I suggest a $500.00 price based on its condition and the others.

Richard: Interesting post. I actually have a Captain Farwell's Hanson Handbook dated 1951. It has the original price tag from "Captain's" at $17.95. Pretty pricy in 1951. It states that he added about 40 tracks since the 1931 handbook. Captain Farwell, USNR, was at the U. of Washington when he published this edition at L&H Printing Company, 68So. Washington Street, Seattle, WA 98104. It is a great book.

A fond memory related to the Hanson Handbook: When I was a kid, anytime anyone in the family mentioned something about sailing or Alaska, my [late] father, a pilot from way back, would get into his sea-chest, and out would come the Hanson Handbook (while my mother would roll her eyes), followed by charts which would end up spread across the living room floor.
I've no doubt that this exposure to maps at a young age is what led me to major in geography at University.
