This 50' Purse Seiner (1912 - homeported in Bellingham) went aground on a rock about 12:30 today off South Beach, San Juan Island. They were in about 12' of water when the found the rock.
I ran on the vessel as I heard the people we're in the water. They had made their escape via the seine skiff, although media reports have reported they were picked up by a good sam.
They will be responsible for raising the vessel and and environmental remediation. The vessel has approximately 300 gallons of diesel aboard.

Hi Doug,
There were about five seiners working the south end of the island today. Sorry I don't know about the opening.
I was there, the "good sam" and they hit the rock at 2pm. Didn't see you "run on board to save them" or them "we we in the water" (proof read your own comments next time)
Interesting, my log says I left Shipyard Cove at 13:00, and was on scene at 13:30. I spoke to the crew of Esperanza, after they were aboard Adventurous. I said I ran on the Mayday and did not say I saved them.
